I can understand their hesitation in signing players to large contracts given how easily they go bad (Cueto, Zito, Samardzija, Pence…) but you have to be willing to take some risks too. Their -29 Ultimate Zone Rating is even worse, coming in dead last. Their -29 Outs Above Average is also second-last. The Giants as a whole have a -36 Defensive Runs Saved on the year, putting them 29th in the majors in that regard.
